Dear Govardhan ji, i am busy with my professional work.i am going to meet some members in private gathering very shortly. I am going to discuss my PLAN OF ACTION. I answer your quries shortly. If you are Ex.committee member you can play constructive role to solve problem also bring the Association live. Regards M.S.SEKAR -----Original Message----- From: Govardhan KK Sent: 28/09/2011, 12:03 PM To: mallisekar@hotmail.com Subject: Views without fear or favour Dear Mr. Sekar, I am Govardhan working in BSNL and staying in Sahibabad, Rajinder Nagar. My views are as follows: 1. Get to gether is a personal matter and joining or not joining is purely personal. 2. What is the guarantee that the new organisation will also NOT go the same way like old organisation? What is the aim of new org like this lot of questions are there. Instead we can revive the old orgn. and maintain harmony among our community . 3. If the mgt. com mittee of OLD orgn. does not function properly, what is the rule position under Societies Act? what are the rights of the life members? please enlighten and educate me and also all the members. Thank you. Govardhan, 9868258501; 0120-2901009
Dear Sourastrians,
Here you go with my
views,
Some members suggesting to organize GET TOGETHER 2-4
times in a year without shadow of Association
Get-2-gather is
something purely personal nature and which can be organized by anyone so long
as he/she is able to gather interested parties. No further comment.
Some members suggesting to float a new Platform to
bring all sourashtrians togethe
Being small community consisting of not exceeding
100 families in NCR, would not recommend to float new platform and hence, I
am not supportive of this.
Some members suggesting to change Managing Committee
of the Delhi Sourashtra Association by all means.
As I noticed during last two meeting, there are
some of the basic things which are mandatory in nature for convening General
body meeting, completely missing & there were no proper response given by
management committee as well.
In the light of lack of knowledge in holding
meeting or conducting affairs of association, I would strongly recommend to
revamp the working of the association by way of reconstituting the management
committee and also make necessary amendments in the bye-laws keeping in view
interest of all members and association.
Regards, Bhaskar

Dear Kishoreji,
As you are aware the Sourashtra Association had
set up with the noble and laudable objective of promoting in the NCR the rich
and invaluable cultural heritage and other traditions of the Sourashtra
Community, particularly to the younger generation. Unless this noble
objective is achieved this rich and cultural traditions of the community will
disappear within short span of time.
In this task our Association has the leading role.
Rightly or wrongly the association activities have slackened during the last
four years. No meetings of the general body or periodical elections have been
held, even cultural and other activities have also been very few.
This is not the time to complain and blame. The procedural
lapses that have taken place must be set right by the existing set up
immediately by calling meetings of the general body and holding elections to
the Executive committee. I am of the view that we should explain to the
member that this not the time to blame and criticize. We should explain to
the members that this is not the right time to raise procedural and
administrative delays.
What is required is to forget the past and strengthen
the existing association. For this the existing Management of the association
must set right the procedural shortcomings and call meetings of E.C. /G.B. to
conduct elections and chalk out a new action plan covering all aspects of the
welfare and advancement of the Sourashtra Community in the NCR. This is
particularly necessary in the interest of the younger generation.
For this the following actions need to be taken by you,
·
Hold Regular meetings of the E.C. to allot budget for the meetings.
·
Call meeting of the general body after giving prescribed notice to
complete requirements like holding elections.
·
Start organizing function at least twice in a year to promote
interaction between members of our community in social cultural and religious
areas.
I am taking the liberty of sending a copy of this
to all the members of the Sourashtra community requesting them to forget past
and join hands to Rejuvenate and Re –Energize our association.
On my part I am willing to give my time and support to
organize any programs by the association in the NCR.
I am sure you will appreciate my stand and initiate
action on the lines suggested above.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
T.R. Bhaskaran

INAUGURAL
CEREMONY OF
SOURASHTRA MINORITIES FIRST DELEGATE CONFERENCE
TO BE ORGANISED BY SRI PRASANNA VENKATESWARA EVENTS
TRUST, CHENNAI
RESOLUTIONS TO BE ADOPTED AT THE CONFERENCE
Place: New Delhi Date:
16-09-2008
1. Granting of Most Backward Status to the
Sourashtra Community in Tamil Nadu:
Sourashtra
Community is the linguistic minority living in various parts of the country.
Weaving is their main activity and they are economically most backward. Their
population is roughly 15 lakh. Out of them around 12 lakh people are living in
various parts of Tamil Nadu. Though Backward Status is given to them, they are
not adequately sound in education, employment and various other fields.
Hence,
we urge upon the Government that the Sourashtra Community in Tamil Nadu should
be granted with Most Backward Status.
2. Enhancement of Time Slot for Broadcast/Telecast of Saurashtra language
programmes through All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendras in Tamil Nadu and
adequate chance to Sourashtra Artists/Talents:
Sourashtra
Community people are having adequate knowledge and rich in art and culture both
in Sourashtra and Tamil languages. But they are not provided with adequate
chance to show and express their talents. Therefore, we urge upon the Union
Government to 2
enhance the time slot for broadcast/telecast of Sourashtra
language programmes through AIR and DD Kendras in Tamil Nadu and the artists
may also be given more chances to express their talents in their mother tongue.
3. Adequate number of people’s
representatives i.e. Mayors, MLAs, MPs (both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) to be
given from Sourashtra Community:
Sourahstra
Community people are largely concentrated in Madurai, Paramakudi, Dindigul,
Tiruchi, Thanjavur and Kumbakonam areas. But they are not properly represented
as mayors, MLAs or members in the Houses of Parliament. The community feels
very much deprived and they are not able to vindicate their grievances to the
Administration due to lack of representation in Government.
We
urge upon the Government that adequate representation should be given in various
local bodies, legislative bodies and Houses of Parliament.
4. Release of Commemorate Postage and First
Day Cover in honour Late L.K. Thulasiram:
Late
L.K. Thulasiram is the pioneer, role model and founder of Mid Day Meal Scheme
in the country. While observing the poor student turnout in schools in the
country, in 1906, he has started this scheme in some schools at Madurai. With
the result, large numbers of students are enrolled in the schools. 3
Later, after knowing about this scheme Shri K.
Kamaraj, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu visited and impressed on it. He
has launched the scheme throughout Tamilnadu and later it was expanded by late
MGR and now the Union Government has implemented it throughout the country.
To
honour, Late L.K. Thulasiram, we urge upon the Government to release a
Commemorative Postage Stamp and First Day Cover.
5. Conferring of highest Civilian Award to
Dr. T.M. Soundarajan:
Dr.
T.M. Soundarajan who hails from Sourashtra Community was associated with the
Tamil Film Industry for more than four decades. He is great versatile. He wrote
and sung thousands of songs. His contribution to film industry is immense.
Government India has awarded him with Padma Shri. However, that is not
sufficient in recognition of his services.
Hence,
we urge upon the Government that he should be conferred with highest civilian
awards.
6. Release of Commemorate Postage and First
Day Cover in honour Late Ayyampettai Venkatramana Bagavathar:
Ayyampettai
Venkatramana Bagavathar is the disciple of Saint Thiagaraja of Thiruvaiyaru. He
was closely associated with Saint Thiagraja in composing the krithanas on
Lord Rama. He was also instrumental in writing and preserving the manuscripts,
Thiagaraja Kirthanas and those are preserved even today. 4
Hence we urge upon the Government to honour the
service rendered by Ayyampettai Venkatramana Bagavathar in the field of music,
a Commemorate Postage Stamp and First Day Cover should be released.
7. Allotment
of land to Sourashtra Association, Delhi:
The Sourashtra
Association in Delhi is helping the poor students by providing books, summer
and winter uniforms, shoes, etc. It also helps the poor and downtrodden people
in times of need. They also promote the upliftment of art and culture. Since
long, the Association is fighting for getting a piece of land in Delhi for
promoting social and cultural activities.
At
present, in principle, the Government has agreed for allotment of land to
Sourashtra Association at Janakpuri, New Delhi.
We
urge upon the Government that this matter may be expedited and ‘Land Allotment
Letter’ may be issued at the earliest.
8. Waiver
of weaver’s loan and special package to weavers:
Due
to appreciation of rupee in the last few years, the handloom and weaving
industry were very much affected and the weavers were fell on debt trap. Though
the Government has provided adequate package to farmers, the weavers were
neglected.
Hence, we urge upon the Government to consider a
package to waive overdue interest and loans of handloom weavers outstanding 5
so far, and the bailout, of course, will
be very meagre in comparison with farmers’ loan waiving package.
9. To provide adequate representation for
Sourashtra Community people in Central Government Bodies, Committees, etc.
Sourashtra Community people are eminent in various
fields but they not adequate represented in various Central/State Government
Bodies/Committees. With the result, they feel deprived of their basic rights.
Hence, we urge upon the Government to provide adequate
represention to Sourashtra Community people in the Central/State Government
Bodies, Committees, etc.
10.
The Sourashtra Community persons like Ex. MPs, Dt. Judges, Leading Advocates
may be appointed as Standing Members of Central & State Minority
Commission.
11.
To consider the people of experienced Sourashtra Advocates at Chennai, Madurai
High Courts for permanent judge in the Minority Quota as per Government policy.
So far, no person is appointed.
12. Political:-
The
Sourashtra minorities require a nominated post as MP from Rajya Sabha.
13. Education:-
To
enable higher education, Sourashtra Minority may be allowed a separate quota as
religious minorities.
14.
Loans and concessions for winkers of Sourashtra people for handicraft, silk
weaving as equal to Bunkers. 6

REASON & DEMAND:
- Organizers not clear about their demand:-
- are they want 2% sub-quota
in existing 30% OBC quota or
- are
they want to bring our sourashtra community from OBC to MBC
- Reason for their demand to get more seats in Educational Institutions &
Govt. Jobs.
Is that possible – please go
through the illustration

If our community comes under MBC quota
then we can only competate 11,960 seats in MBC instead of 17,940 seats in OBC
As per our demand, if govt.given SUB-QUOTA IN BC QUOTA then
calculation like this:

As per this reservation policy, our student to competate
only for 338 seats. We can’t competate remaining seats of 17,582(17940-358 =

Suppose, our community 500 students qualified as per cut
off % marks we can only get 338 seats
and losing 162 seats (500-338=162).
As per existing reservation policy we can get 500 seats as
per cut off % marks.
As per our demand, if govt.given SUB-QUOTA IN MBC QUOTA then
calculation like this:

As per this reservation policy, our student to competate
only for 240 seats. We can’t competate remaining seats of 11,720 (11960-240)
Suppose, our community 500 students qualified as per cut
off % marks we can only get 240 seats
and losing 260 seats (500-240=260).
As per existing reservation policy we can get 500 seats as
per cut off % marks.
If we get 2% on
overall seats (2% of 59800 = 1196 seats) then it is beneficial to our
community. But this is not possible becasue provision
of separate reservation would be struck down by the court.
- One more arugment given by Jutty Ad Page Mr.Eshwarlal, Mr.S.R.Radha and others that Muslims and Chrisians got 3.5% special quota.
Yes , I
agree – but what happened after that – Christians surrendered the quota:
Chennai: Fulfilling a
long-standing demand of the minority communities in Tamil Nadu, Chief
Minister M Karunanidhi announced on 13 September 2007 that the Muslims and
Christians belonging to backward communities would get 3.5 per cent
reservation each in educational institutions and government employment.
An ordinance to give
effect to the reservation proposal would be promulgated on 15 September 2007,
the 99th birthday of former Chief Minister CN Annadurai. Although the State
Government described the allocation as ‘separate’ reservation, in reality,
the Muslims and Christians would be given the reservation as a ‘sub-quota’
within the 30 per cent already reserved for the Backward Classes. Obviously,
the Government opted for this decision keeping in mind the fact that
provision of separate reservation would be struck down by the court.
“Muslims and
Christians are already in the Backward Classes list and so far they are
competing with the other communities for reservation in educational
institutions and employment opportunities. Now, both communities have
specific reservation”, a senior official clarified.
The Government's
decision followed the recommendation of the Commission headed by Justice MS
Janarthanam which went into the possibilities of providing separate
reservation for Muslims and Christians.
The Commission
studied the report of the Second Backward Classes Commission headed by JA
Ambasankar which had detailed information about the population of the
backward class Hindu communities as well as that of Muslims and Christians,
an official release here said.

representations from community leaders, the Tamil Nadu government Monday

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi acceded to the request of a team of

release said.

The
Times of India reportsThe Christian delegation, including Archbishop of
Madras-Mylapore Rev A M Chinnappa, Bishop of Kottar-Nagercoil Rev Peter
Remigius, and other Catholic and Protestant bishops, state minorities commission
chairman Fr Vincent Chinnadurai and Congress whip Peter Alphonse, submitted a
petition appealing for withdrawing the quota.
“You
made history by introducing exclusive sub-quotas for Christians and Muslims and
we were thankfulforit.However,when
the law came into force, we found that the Christian community got fewer
opportunities in admission and employment than before. There is a widespread
feeling that the exclusive quota is detrimental to the Christian people, not
only in southern districts of Tamil Nadu, where there is a sizeable Christian
population, but in the whole state,” they said.

feeling that the exclusive quota is detrimental to the Christian people, not

But Muslims community not yet surrendered because community
divided into several groups and not able to come to the understanding between
groups. But some groups wants to surrender the reservation immediately but they
don’t have authority to do so.
During the meeting I am the only person opposed this
resolution in public( some people agreed my view but they are not ready to say openly) and
expressed my views on stage in front of the above guests.
Finally, Ex-Minister Mr.S.R.Radha tried to convenience me
and read the resolution .
( I
have one more confusion :
a) Are the read the resolution
already passed and seeking the endorsement
b) Are the introduced the
resolution for debate
c) Are the they declared that
the resolution passed)
I don’t know what happened after that.
My view beyond facts & figures
Caste system is not an indispensable part of the Hindu
religion and Manusmriti and other scriptures emphasise that the “Indian caste
system was originally non-heriditary. One can find the prevanence of the caste
system more in Hinduism than any other religion. Castes are the divisions in
which certain section of the community belongs, which also enjoys social status
accordingly. What we mean by social status is the prestige or the honor that is
being attached to one’s position in the society. Caste and social status were
inter related. A higher caste individual was always looked with awe and
reverence though the person be economically unstable
Dr.Ambedkar introducted the reservation system to bring them
in the mainstream of the society and to get equal opportunity and attain
highest social status.
Those who are listed in BC/OBC/MBC/SC/ST according to their
profession irrespective of their language and religion.
Sourashtrians are belongs to Hindu Religion . Sourashtra is not caste it is language. Their
main profession is Weaving and related jobs. Weaving is profession and weavers
speaks different languages in different parts of the world. In India Weaving
treated as honourable profession and not treated as “Suthiran” profession.
Weavers are fulfilling basic need of the human being via.FOOD,CLOTH AND
SHELTER.
But, in Tamil Nadu just because of Minority people
speaking the Sourashtra language and on
their demand the Princy State/British Rulers given lingustic minority community
status and brought them under Backward Class list . They have given this status
to get equal opportunity with other
community people.
Sourashtrians already living with prestige and honour in the
society, Every community, whether forward or backward have economically weaker people and not
exceptional to Sourashtra community.
We are doing unjustice to the future generation. Why we are
pushing our community backward just to get nothing and to loose the existing
benefit.
Tomorrow if someone in our community feels that if we get SC/ST status we will get
more benefits and start pushing further backward in social status then all we become untouchables(sutras)
If any Sourashtrian wants more benefit from government under quota systems let them marry SC/ST community people and get the same. They don’t have any moral/ legal rights to do so. They are not authorized person to do so.
MY APPEAL TO SOURASHTRIANS
If you can’t stop them now, then it will be too late.
Advice/force them to withdraw the resolution and stop them to proceed further.
There is no use to bring our community into MBC or any other
catagory. Existing place is more beneficial. I request all sourashtrians please
go through this message again and again and understand the problem.
- Please write to me and send copy to Jutty Ad Page
- Please send this message to all sourashtrians whatever your opinion.

Saurashtra community in Tamil Nadu
demands most backward statusNew Delhi
The Saurashtra
community, which is a linguistic minority in Tamil Nadu, has demanded among
others the most backward status and adequate representation in central
government bodies.
During the first delegate conference held in
the capital yesterday, Mr A G S Ram Babu, former Member of Parliament from
Madurai, said some 12 lakh people belonging to the community live in Tamil
Nadu. Though backward status was given to them, they were not adequately sound
in education and employment sectors. The community people were having adequate knowledge of the rich art and culture both in Saurashtra and Tamil languages. But they had not been provided adequate chances to show and express their talents. The conference has asked the government to give adequate chances to the community artistes in All India Radio and Doordarshan to express their talents. Dr T M Soundararajan, who belongs to the Saurashtra community, has been associated with the Tamil film industry for more than four decades.
The conference urged the government to release a commemorative stamp to honour Saurashtra community leader late L K Thulasidasan, a role model and founder of mid-day meal scheme in the country.
Traditionally weavers, the members of the Saurashtra community were affected due to high interest rates and the government should waive overdue interest and loans, the conference said.
Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G K Vasan, who presided over the conference, assured the delegates that he would take up their demands with the concerned authorities at the Centre and the State levels.
